Southern Water has completed more than £3 million of upgrades to a wastewater treatment works which are directly benefitting the health of the River Adur and its tributaries.
The completion of works at Blackstone Wastewater Treatment Works now ensure the company meets the highest environmental standards in the quality of the treated water leaving the site.
As part of the project at the works near Albourne, Southern Water has installed new chemical dosing equipment, including ferric dosing to remove more phosphorus from wastewater leaving the site.
The utility has also installed new equipment including settlement tanks, which separate solids from liquids, and advanced control and monitoring systems.
The works were delivered by GTb on behalf of Southern Water.

“This has been a great project to get over the line. The team have worked hard over the last 18 months to ensure we meet the new environmental regulations set by the Environment Agency. This is one of dozens of projects we’ve worked on across the Southern Water region.”
